For decades, Marvel has tried to create other universes than the main one (aka 616). These attempts began in the 80’s with the New Universe. In the 90’s, they tried series based in the future with the 2099 line of comics. And finally, they hit gold for a time with the Ultimate universe, which gave the world Miles Morales.
While Miles Morales is likely the most popular character to join the 616 Earth, Miguel O’Hara is another that has made an impact as well. First coming to the 616 Earth in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, Miguel was soon given his own title in 2014. It ran for only 12 issues but was soon followed by another ongoing series that ran over 2 years and 25 issues. More recently, there were Spider-Man 2099: Exodus (2022) and Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis. He has even appeared in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-
verse on the big screen.
So if you’re looking to try a Spider-Man series that isn’t based around Peter or
Miles, Spider-Man 2099 is certainly worth giving a try. None of the back issues are
overly expensive and the vast majority are collected in trade paperback form, easily
available through most online book dealers.
